North Westers Out & About 2022

Note – the latest news is at the top

Another great year for North West members – where do we start – at the Top with Wayne & Karon Jackson as Top Breeders in 2022, having bred three Champions made up in one calendar year, including Ch Jackabyte Javikah. This feat has never been achieved in Staffords, going back to Day 1.

Hot on their heels are Julie Bibby & Stacey Hirst, having bred three champions in a single litter – only ever been achieved twice before (in Staffords). Two of these were made up in 2022, one owned by Julie & Stacey themselves – Ch Taraiel Dua Lipa and the other owned by new NW members Kevin & Lisa Wells – Ch Taraiel Ray Of Light at Wellsstaffs. The third member of this trio, made up in 2021 is Ch Taraiel Stormzy of Tikkurilan, a CC winner in 2022.

Other North West Champions in 2022 are John & Chrissy’s Ch Matrixstaffs Black Beauty; Anthony & Bev Antonio’s Ch Gazstaff’s Man In Black at Antoniostaff; Martin & Michelle Murphy(from Dublin) with Ch Brockmar Rewrite The Stars; Karen & Steven Waltham with Ch Dringshaw Athos.

We can’t ignore the exploits of Debbie Desmond’s Ch Elitebulls Challenger. Not only is he the Top Stud Dog in 2022 (all breeds!); he’s sired seven more champions, made up in 2022, that’s ten in total; and he was awarded four CC’s in 2022, bringing his CC haul to 13. What a Dog and here he is right in the middle of his progeny – all eight are Champions – this photo was taken at Stoneleigh in March 2022.

The Top Puppy in 2022 and a record breaker with 11 Best Puppy awards at Champ shows, plus 3 Group 1’s, 2 Group 2’s and a Group 4 was Steve & Kelly Wilson’s Northstaff Nightmare.

The Top Veteran for 2022 was Andy & Linzi Mayren’s Ch Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs collecting along the way 14 (yes, 14) Best Veteran in breed awards and at the General Ch shows was placed Group 1 on 2 occasions, plus a Group 3.

So on to the year itself, starting at the end

News from LKA the last Champ show in 2022.

Members Tracy Hamilton and Robert Murphy have hit the big time – under judge Di Taylor their young bitch Bonnie Lass of Angels Peak Shawrigg, competing in Junior for the first time, not only won the class but won the CC!

Well done them and also well done to Tom Lowe & Becka with litter brother Big Man On Mac Dui, also winning the Junior Dog class

Next bit of news from LKA we witnessed the finale and showdown for the Top Veteran award 2022 between Ch Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs (Theo) and Illori Akinlana (Jabba) . Before the show there was one point in it, in favour of Theo – he won the class with Jabba second. Congratulations Theo (and Andy & Linzi) it’s been a ding dong battle all year. Well done also to Gem Rowe, Jabba’s owner for being such a sporting exhibitor.

Best Puppy at LKA went to Dave & Julie Cartwright’s Elitebull Skyefall, thus setting them off on a new journey, and not a bad choice of where to purchase a puppy from – Debbie Desmond and her Elitebull kennel (when I think about it, not a bad choice for an affix either – Elitebull).

At the South Wales club show Jackabyte Wonderlust at Rhebelstaff was awarded her third CC and this result confirms the Jacksons as Top Stafford Breeders for 2022 with three Champions made up in the year – what can you say – superb and a feat that has never been achieved in Staffords, ever.

Pictured here are Martin Johnson (Judge), Karon & Wayne Jackson and owner Arthur Duncan with his latest Champion.

The Bitch RCC at this show was a second such award for Paul & Chris Quinn’s Callastaff Five Years at Bowferry, having picked this up from Minor Puppy at Border Union – things looking good for this young bitch.

The South Wales club show was also one of those special days for Dawn Holmes when her puppy bitch Barielle Special Edition was awarded Best Puppy, one step further than the previous weekend at the SBTC where she was the Best Puppy Bitch. Well done Dawn, I know that you are extremely overjoyed with this result – now you can look forward to 2023 with much optimism.

Pictured above are Dawn with judge Martin Johnson and handler Wynny Southworth

At the SBTC (2nd show in November) another dog from the Jackabyte kennel took the BRCC – this was Jackabyte Nemesis, already a RCC winner way back in 2021 at the Scottish weekend and that result was from Minor Puppy! Judge here was Mike Davies.

The Best Veteran at this show was Ch Trawden Ice and Spice, having won the Veteran Bitch class and the Veteran of the Year the previous day at the East Mids and she wasn’t finished there either winning Best Veteran in South Wales. Co-owner Jane Roper looking immaculate as always in this photo, Bev behind the camera.

New members Garry & Sue Reynolds have suddenly discovered that their dog Niatona Wreck It Ralph is capable of winning at the very highest level – I suspect rather a shock, to first of all win the RCC at Downlands, followed a week later by the CC at the East Midlands. It’s tremendous to see relative newcomers to the show scene doing so well, congratulations. Laureen is in the picture enjoying some reflected glory; her dog Jodels Impact is the sire. The breeder is Trevor & Di Taylor making this an all North East affair.

Talking about new members, Kerrie Couzens & Rob Coombes joined last year and competed at the North West sunfest last July (2021) with their dog Niatona Arlo Coombes. Since then they have progressed through the classes, picking up a RCC from Junior (at the North East show in 2021) and is presently in Yearling winning consistently and culminating in a couple of RCC’s in a couple of days – at the East Midlands (below with judge Rob Jenkins) and the SBTC, the next day.

Out of the last litter bred by the Simpsons included a bitch – Briganah Don’t Stop Me Now – that went to Steve & Caroline Roberts, who incidentally own the sire of this litter Briganah Indeed I Do mated to Briganah Body And Soul.

Having already picked up a couple of RCC’s Don’t Stop Me Now was awarded the CC at the recent East Midlands show, pictured below with judge Frank Marlow and handler Alan Hedges.

After the sad loss of Steve in October, this win is for you.

East Midlands also hold the Veteran of the Year, inviting all dogs winning Best Veteran at the Champ shows over 2022. This year the award went to Ch Trawden Ice And Spice co-owned by Bev Harrison. She won the Veteran bitch class at this show and the following day at the SBTC show was awarded Best Veteran and also at the SBTC of South Wales – not a bad run up to the end of the showing season

Not a lot doing for North Westers at the Downlands/Southern Counties but what did come our way was worth the trip – certainly for Garry & Sue Reynolds who took the DRCC at Downlands, a bit of a shock for them two I suspect – is it really happening or is it a dream?

Tracy Hamilton takes great pride in the way things had gone with not only her puppy bitch Bonnie Lass Angel Peaks Shawrigg but the winning litter mates the RCC winning Big Man On Mac Dui and Beinn A Buird with Azzgem (winner of MPD at the (North West Ch show). At this show Tracy’s bitch went Best Puppy, below.

Liz & Paul Stanway’s young dog has been competing in the Junior class for several months and in that time had accumulated 13 first places, culminating being awarded the RCC at Midland Counties under Brett Lay – not a bad run and certainly puts a smile on Liz’s face.

At the same show the CC’s went to Ch Dringshaw Athos and Ch Taraiel Ray Of Light at Wellsstaffs – both these dogs pictured below in the challenge for BOB (the dog won)

At the North East Ch show in October Club members Wayne & Karon Jackson didn’t make it to the show but I bet they wish they had when two dogs bred by them were awarded the CC’s!!! First of all the dog Jackabyte Boletoro at Nettleworth took his third CC followed by the bitch Jackabyte Wonderlust at Rhebelstaff – her 2nd CC after winning a few RCC’s since her 1st CC, in 2021.

L – JACKABYTE WONDERLUST AT RHEBELSTAFF HANDLED BY OWNER ARTHUR DUNCAN ; R – CH JACKABYTE BOLETORO AT NETTLEWORTH HANDLED BY SIAN HAMMOND

Best Veteran in the North East went to Ch Trawden Ice And Spice – what can one say, judge Paul Stanway knows his onions and his Staffords.

New members Tom Lowe & Becka Kaur-Hayre have certainly taken to the dog showing scene with their dog Big Man On Mac Dui. It helps when you have a good ‘un – the dog has been placed First 8 times in Puppy classes at Champ shows, culminating in a RCC at the North Of Scotland show under judge Carol Ridley.

Pictured here are Tracey Hamilton (Tracy was heavily involved with the breeding and sale of the litter) and Becka (with a human baby), handler Andy Mayren and Tom.

At the same show Ch Joemikeste Play The Game took the Best Veteran award, having won this the day before at the SKC show.

The previous day at the SKC show Jose & Isidoro Martinez scored with their Bullbrothers Mist Mydnight winning the BRCC under Karl Karlsson, a step in the right direction for these two Martinez lads. They have been around for quite a while now winning regularly with their own Bullbrothers Staffords and also a few bred in Spain – Diamonds of Blanch and Stormfire kennels – this win puts them on a different level.

Over at Belfast one NW member – two actually – did OK – that’s Martin & Karen Johnson’s bitch Tillcarr Kissed By Fire picking up the RCC, literally.

I see that Belfast have copied the North West with their welcome banner in different languages.

Jackabyte Javikah was awarded a third CC at Darlington under Alan Small. Wayne & Karon Jackson, NW members, have been around a long time – they have now bred four Champions and they have also made up three others – and the joy of winning tickets never seems to wayne with Karon.

Happy days for team Jackabyte and cheers Karon

DCC at DARLINGTON – JACKABYTE JAVIKAH

Callastaff Five Years at Bowferry picked up the Best Puppy award at Darlington, her third such award (a fourth one came at the SKC).

Callastaff Five Years at Bowferry

The day before Darlington the Northern Counties held their show at the same venue – Ripon Racecourse – we were allocated an entire marquee so in some respects it was almost like a proper breed club show as opposed to being tagged on to a large General show. Even the admin looked independent.

There was even an interval for the raffle – prizes on the right above – allowing the judges and ref Brian Owen to take a short break, along with Eileen Coats.

Best Puppy at this show was one of many BP awards – 11 in fact – for Steve & Kelly Wilson’s Northstaff Nightmare – this show was his last in Puppy, collecting a record number of points along the way – here he is with Kelly and judge Billy Meek.

Jack Coats judged the bitches at this show and awarded his RCC to Kevin & Lisa Wells’ Ch Taraiel Ray Of Light at Wellsstaffs; Kevin looking rather serious, Lisa looking almost pleased and Mabel looking spot on.

For the second week on the trot, two more North West members have hit the big time with their dogs getting made up at the same show – Richmond this time, under judge Martin Murphy.

First up, new members Anthony and Bev Antonio’s Dog – Gazstaff’s Man In Black at Antoniostaff – winning the CC two weeks running (Richmond and City of Birmingham in 2022) to add to the first at the LKA in 2021.

Note also that this dog was awarded the RCC at our show in October last year under Archie Bryden.

CC Winners at Richmond 2022 – Left, DCC Gazstaff’s Man In Black at Antoniostaff and Right, BCC Taraiel Dua Lipa

The Bitch ticket went to Julie Bibby and Stacey Hirst with their Taraiel Dua Lipa – this is the third Champion from the same litter bred by these two very modest breeders – the other two are Ch Taraiel Ray Of Light at Wellsstaffs (owned by NW members Kevin & Lisa Wells) and Ch Taraiel Stormzy at Tikkurilan.

Well done all. Dua Lipa has since been awarded a fourth CC at Belfast – certainly worth the trip over there.

Things are hotting up for NW members – not one but two dogs winning their third tickets at the latest Ch show – the Welsh KC at Builth Wells under judge John Scanlan – and these happy winners are Karen & Steve Waltham with their first Champion (and home bred at that) – Dringshaw Athos. Emma Miller (in the middle) handles the dog – this third CC follows on quite closely after the 2nd at the East Anglian show – see below

Since then this dog took the CC at Midland Counties under Brett Lay

CH DRINGSHAW ATHOS – DCC AT WKC

The other big winner winning her third CC is Brockmar Rewrite The Stars owned and bred by the Murphy family from Dublin – this bitch is out of their Ch Karwillage Mystic Girl – they well deserve their wins and our gratitude for their unstinting support of the UK show scene (not to mention the cost).

CH BROCKMAR REWRITE THE STARS – BCC AT WKC

Best Puppy at this show was Northstaff Nightmare, again.

At Driffield we witnessed a repeat performance of the Elitebull/Jackabyte double at Birmingham, under Patsy Gilmour. These doubles don’t come along often – in recent, times we’ve seen the Johnson’s (Martin & Karen) win three – surely a record in itself so maybe there’s more to come for these two Nettleworths.

DRIFFIELD WINNERS 2022 – DCC & BOB JACKABYTE BOLETORO AT NETTLEWORTH HANDLED BY BREEDER KARON JACKSON AND BCC ELITEBULL MOJITO AT NETTLEWORTH BRED BY DEBBIE DESMOND (WITH ROSETTES)

More news about NW members big wins – this time from Bournemouth and the deep heat, where the Bitch CC was awarded by Bev Harrison to Martin & Karen Johnson’s Tillcarr Kissed By Fire. The Tillcarrs are back up and running!

TILLCARR KISSED BY FIRE – BCC AT BOURNEMOUTH 2022

NW Members Debbie & Alan Desmond’s Ch Elitebulls Challenger (Dodge) has hit new heights – he is the Our Dogs 2021 Top Stud dog – All Breeds – what an achievement and congratulations – see extract below. (what is not mentioned is that three of the nine CC winners are Champions).

TOP STUD DOG ALL BREEDS 2021 – CH ELITEBULLS CHALLENGER

This dog has not finished there though – he’s enjoying a bit of a renaissance – at the age of five Debbie has thrown him back in the ring – at this moment in time, since winning the CC at Blackpool, he’s taken two more CC’s – one at Notts & Derby and another at Bournemouth – so this outstanding dog now has 12 CC’s to his name and I dare say he’s not finished yet. Here he is at Bournemouth under Bev Harrison.

Definitely not finished – another CC under Tec Norton at SWKA.

DCC AT BOURNEMOUTH – CH ELITEBULLS CHALLENGER

The second NW member(s) (and NW committee members as well) to receive that coveted third CC in 2022 are John & Chrissy Howard with their home bred bitch Matrixstaffs Black Beauty – this was awarded at the second Notts & Derby show under Laureen Williams. This bitch is out of the Howard’s first litter, mating their bitch Caymenstaffs Little Minx to the Allsopp’s Ch Rubericla Trailbreaker. Chrissy had regained her composure by the time this photo (above) was taken

CH MATRIXSTAFFS BLACK BEAUTY

In the Dog ring at Notts & Derby – the second show – Jackabyte Javikah took his 2nd CC, only a couple of weeks after his first.

So a red letter day for two NW members – the Howard’s and the Jackson’s taking both CC’s on the same day – something to celebrate you must agree.

The Potteries double show was a dream day for Team Taraiel and breeders Julie Bibby and Stacey Hirst – a full squad out with first places left, right and centre and Taraiel Dua Lipa taking centre stage with the bitch CC under Bianca Janssen, to add to the one gained last year. Here she is below with Stacey.

TARAIEL DUA LIPA – BCC AT THE POTTERIES 2022

This bitch is litter sister to Ch Taraiel Ray Of Light at Wellsstaffs (First place in Open under Tony Moore) and Ch Taraiel Stormzy of Tikkurilan (First place in Open & RCC)

To cap it off the dam of this litter, Taraiel Lorde took first place in the Veteran class. We haven’t got a photo of her at this show so one from 2021 will have to do.

It might be worth mentioning also that this latter bitch has produced three Champions! Make that 4 Champions after Taraiel Dua Lipa was awarded a 3rd CC at WKC – that’s 3 Champions from one litter!!! Only ever been achieved before in Staffords, way back in the 50’s & 60’s. Well done, Julie & Stacey.

All that talk of Taraiels, it was at this show that Penny Funnell gave Jackabyte Javikah his first CC, after winning three RCC’s over the past few weeks – looks like Karon has just about recovered from the shock/delight in equal measures.

The bitch judge at the Potteries second show (held on the same day!!) was Tony Moore – his RCC winner was a NW new member Tommy Bissell’s Elitebull Solitaire.

The day before the East Anglian show was East Of England – the Best Veteran here was Gem Rowe’s Illori Akinlana , going on to win the Terrier Group.

It was one of those weekends to remember for Gem as she won Junior Bitch with her Illori Constellation at both shows.

A nice surprise for Steve & Karen Waltham – a second CC (the first was last year) for their dog Dringshaw Athos at the East Anglian show under judge Tony Moore, followed by BIS, a terrific result. On the day the dog was handled by fellow NW member Emma Miller (that’s Karen in this photo though)

DCC EAST ANGLIA 2022 – DRINGSHAW ATHOS

The Dog Reserve CC at this East Anglian show was also from the North West – Norton’s Ch Taraiel Stormzy of Tikkurilan – he also won the DRCC at the Potteries (under Penny Funnell) and at the Border Union under judge Margaret Cairns, pictured below.

DRCC BORDER UNION CH TARAIEL STORMZY OF TIKKURILAN

The bitch RCC at Border Union was a total but pleasant surprise for Paul Quinn – not expecting this award from minor Puppy for Callastaff Five Years at Bowferry – this puts the Quinn’s fair and square into the action.

Windsor is not on many North Westers list of shows to go to but it doesn’t stop the some of our more intrepid members, including the Jackson’s with Jackabyte Javikah winning a second RCC and the Wilson’s Northstaff Nightmare going BP and Terrier Group 1, a great thrill having just won this award at Blackpool.

Blackpool was cold and miserable but who cares if you win the CC and that’s what happened to Debbie Desmond bringing out Ch Elitebulls Challenger after a bit of a sabbatical and why not, as she put it.

Tucked in behind this dog was the Brockmar Crack On – the Murphy’s had to be satisfied with the RCC on this occasion.

It was at Blackpool that the Best Veteran Ch Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs & Best Puppy Northstaff Nightmare both won their respective Groups – what a day for the Mayrens and the Wilsons. Here they are with Colin Powell.

The Club welcomes new members and two in particular are Kevin & Lisa Wells along with their bitch Ch Taraiel Ray Of Light at Wellsstaff, pictured here with the judge and co-breeder Stacey Hirst after she was awarded her third CC at Bath under Ken Meneer. This is the first NW member to make up a dog in 2022.

CH TARAIEL RAY OF LIGHT AT WELLSTAFF

This was also celebrated by some at the ringside, below – Julie Bibby and Elaine Norton.

The day before Blackpool was the North West Ch show, reported elsewhere on this web site – follow this link:- https://northwestsbtc.co.uk/nwsbtc-champ-show-2022/

There was one NW Member who did well at this show and that was Debbie Desmond winning Best Puppy with Niatona Pandora’s Box to Elitebull., below with judge Paul Quinn.

Competing with the above for BP was Kelly Wilson with Northstaff Nightmare, another shot of him here.

At the SCCA Dave & Vicky Butler’s Ch Joemikeste Play The Game made an entrance, still giving Vicki a hard time as usual, but winning the Best Veteran award.

It was at this show where Jackabyte Javikah took his first RCC but before that he won the Limit class.

Before this flurry of excitement with Jackabyte Javikah, the Jackson’s bitch Jackabyte Decadence took the RCC at the Merseyside show and she joins a number of top winning bitches from this kennel – she’s pictured here with the judge Gerard Cox.

What’s more we saw a repeat RCC awarded to this bitch at Driffield under Patsy Gilmour.

RCC MSBTC – JACKABYTE DECADENCE

That was it for top honours over the Fleetwood weekend but at the Merseyside show both Veteran classes were won by two NW members dogs – Andy & Linzi Mayren’s Ch Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs and Bev Harrison & Jane Roper’s Ch Trawden Ice And Spice – these two making a grand couple in the challenge for Best Veteran – won by the bitch. Here they are, the bitch handled by John Dare.

LEFT – CH TRAWDEN ICE AND SPICE & CH BELLAROUGE ADONIS AT FERGIESTAFFS

Brockmar Crack On was awarded his second CC at the Scottish Club show on 21st May 2022, under Jo Blacker – so this dog has joined his litter mate, Brockmar Rewrite The Stars on 2 CC’s. Things definitely looking up for team Brockmar and still going up.

More news from Birmingham National about NW members, this time the two breeders Debbie Desmond (Elitebull) and Karon & Wayne Jackson (Jackabyte).

Dogs from these two kennels took both CC’s with the DCC going to Jackabyte Boletoro at Nettleworth (his first) and the BCC to Elitebull Mojito at Nettleworth (her third and she went BOB). Both these Staffords are by Ch Elitebulls Challenger, currently the top Stud dog and are owned by John & Sam Parker. The photo below is of the BOB challenge, not a brilliant one I’m afraid.

BOB CHALLENGE BIRMINGHAM – JACKABYTE BOLETORO AT NETTLEWORTH (HANDLED BY KARON JACKSON AND ELITEBULL MOJITO AT NETTLEWORTH HANDLED BY JOHN PARKER

North Westers win both CC’s at WELKS under judge John Farley.

The DCC (with BOB) went to Ch Taraiel Stormzy of Tikkurilan and the BCC (her second) was awarded to Matrixstaffs Black Beauty

CC WINNERS AT WELKS – LEFT – MATRIXSTAFFS BLACK BEAUTY AND RIGHT – CH TARAIEL STORMZY OF TIKKURILAN

Other class winners at this show include Jan Matthews young bitch – Janjoma Harvest Goddess winning Minor Puppy Bitch and at the other end of the scale, winning Veteran Dog, was Andy & Linzi Mayren’s Ch Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs. Can’t believe he’s in Veteran.

JANJOMA HARVEST GODDESS
CH BELLAROUGE ADONIS AT FERGIESTAFFS

Breaking news from Northern Ireland and the Club champ show (April 16th 2022) – the Murphy family have just won a remarkable double taking both CC’s with litter mates, the Dog Brockmar Crack On and the Bitch Brockmar Rewrite The Stars, under judge Mick Clarke.

L-R BROCKMAR CRACK ON WITH MARTIN; BROCKMAR REWRITE THE STARS WITH SHAUNA; CH KARWILLAGE MYSTIC GIRL WITH MICHELLE, DAM OF THE TWO WINNERS – PHOTO TAKEN AT STONELEIGH IN MARCH 2022.

To complete the day, litter brother Brockmar I Am Titanium at Finnstaff took the Dog RCC – owned by Stacey Cherry – this dog won the CC at the NW Champ show last October.

What a day for all concerned and congratulations – we do have a photo of family Murphy, taken on the SBT/East Midlands/Crufts weekend, below. Nothing much doing at these three shows but still a happy bunch.

ILLORI AKINLANA – DRCC AT NATIONAL TERRIER

That said Ch Trawden Ice and Spice won Best Veteran at the SBT club – repeated in November at the 2nd SBT show and Illori Akinlana won the same award at the East Mids show – so the veterans are keeping the NW flag flying – but things improved dramatically for Akinlana at the National Terrier, with the Dog RCC award, photo above.

To finish off, another happy person at the ringside at the North West stall – Eleanor Boote.
