NW Open Jan 2020

PERO

The North West shows are sponsored by Pero – Specialist dog food for SBT’s

and Leigh Plumbing, suppliers of bathroom and plumbing accessories.

With an entry of 62 dogs this looked like being a great show – it was better than that – it was fantastic.

The judge was David Cartwright (Borgstaff) and he attracted this FABULOUS entry – an equal number of dogs and bitches entered – and with only a handful of absentees — 7, surprisingly 6 dogs and only 1 bitch.  Possibly the fact that Manchester Ch show was held on the previous day was a factor here as a handful of long distance exhibitors stayed up for the weekend.

The quality of the entry was top notch with Champions, CC and RCC winners competing – you’d be forgiven thinking that you were at a Champ show. The hall was positively buzzing – just about enough room for all the cages and paraphernalia – thus creating a terrific atmosphere. Exhibitors travelled from far and wide – from the North East, Yorkshire, Cumbria down to the Midlands and Norfolk, plus Mr Wise from Surrey.

The show enjoyed the usual spectator attendance – the show’s not itself without long standing Club members Jimmy & Maureen Devine, NW Life Vice Presidents Norman & Dorothy Berry, the Dimmocks and many more. And of course we have new people coming to get a taste of the show scene.

The stewards on the day were Vicki Butler and Andy Mayren, valuable experience for them and not a foot put wrong – in fact the entire committee worked hard to ensure that the show was a tremendous success.

Those mats are in pristine condition (thanks to Paul Sutcliffe) and Secretary Claire Crossman made sure they stayed that way at the end of the show

It has to be said that the NW kitchen excelled once more with top quality food – only one complaint – we were too late ordering the bacon barms, so missed out – we made sure about the cream scones though and Eleanor, that hot pot gets better and better, well done.

 The Main Winners

Best in Show was Debbie Desmond’s Elitebull Destiny

A  bit of a fairy story this as Debbie literally rescued this bitch only recently from an un-suitable owner (putting it politely) – what a transformation in such a short time and this win demonstrates that sometimes good things can happen after dark days.

Reserve Best in show – Karon & Wayne Jackson’s Jackabyte Bocouture,

This girl was the top winning Best puppy from 2019

Best Dog – Liz & Paul Stanway’s – Waystaff Strike Force

Best Puppy – Emma Miller’s Skyland Ratatouille

Best Veteran – Steve & Kelly Wilson’s – Ch Bullhawk Jessie Jay at Northstaff

Results, photo’s and Critiques

Firstly I would like to thank the club for their invitation to judge this show and their hospitality on the day, both to myself and my wife. This show is always lovely to either participate or spectate at, a great venue with a fantastic atmosphere. Big thanks to my ring stewards on the day, Vicki Butler and Andy Mayren who kept me in line. On a negative note, there were a few dogs that lost out on movement and fitness causing them to miss out on higher placing’s and honours in the show.

My Best of Breed, Elitebull Destiny, was my star on the day, oozing quality, never stopped showing herself off. Reserve Best of Breed, Jackabyte Bocouture JW, another quality bitch, again full of Breed type. Best Puppy in Breed, Skyland Ratatouille, a puppy with a lot of promise for the future.
