Judge’s Critique

I would like to thank the committee of the North West Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club for offering me the opportunity to Judge their prestigious single breed Open show and to all those who assisted at the show for their hospitality and congratulate them on hosting a wonderful show, a special thank you goes to my experienced stewards Mrs Kay Aspin and Mrs Claire Crossman. It was pleasing to see that the Open shows are still attracting quality examples of our precious breed, my appreciation and gratitude goes to all those exhibitors who supported the show.

The overall selection of entrants was varied on the day both in colour and type, although movement and fitness in some cases could be improved.

Minor Puppy Dog 1

1^st              Hirst & Bibby’s – TARAIEL DARTH VADER, B/Br 6.5mth – Well balanced young dog, head in good proportion of Bull and Terrier type, strong boned and stood square, developing well, good spring of rib, alert expression, excellent condition of coat, moved well.

Puppy Dog 3 (1)

1^st              Clough’s – MY TOP GUN AT INGENIO, B/br w, 11mth – well portioned head with correct bite, strong boned with tight feet, good spring of rib with balanced loin shape, level top line, good bend of stifle with straight let down hocks, still developing where movement will improve. – BPD

2^nd             Howard’s – PENDLESTAFF FIRE CRACKER, B/Br 10mth, not as alert as 1, correct bite, strong shoulders, angulation correct, Good spring of rib, neat tuck, good bend of stifle, straight let down hock, coat in good condition, moved ok

 

Junior Dog 4 (2)       

1^st              Waltham’s – DRINGSHAW MARQUEZ, R/Wt Top quality young dog, extremely well balanced in all aspects of the standard, I believe he has very good potential for higher accolades in the future. Well-proportioned head, neat ears, alert expression, correct bite, good shoulder angulation, stood square, strong chest with good spring of rib, good loin shape leading to a good balance of thigh to bend of stifle with straight hock. Level top line on the move with drive, BD & BIS

 

2^nd             Bryan’s – FELKIRKSTAFF GLAMDRING, B/Br – well proportion head, alert expression, correct bite, good shoulder angulation, sufficient spring of rib,  neat in loin with a good balance of rear quarters with straight hock, did not hold top line on move as well as 1.

 

Yearling Dog 1

1^st              Jackson’s – MOLRU NOTHING ELSE MATTERS, B/br standard size, fit condition, good alert expression, correct bite, neat ears, strong boned, good spring of rib, well-shaped loin, good bend of stifle with straight hocks, tight feet, beautiful coat condition, moved well with level top line – RBD

Maiden Dog 1

1^st              Hirst & Bibby’s – TARAIEL DARTH VADER, see 1st in MPD

Novice Dog 2

1^st              Hirst & Bibby’s – TARAIEL DARTH VADER, see 1st in MPD

2^nd             Hargreaves’s – ALEX’S BOY TANK, Fawn/w, a bit of a handful on the day, strong head, correct bite, good shoulder angulation, well sprung rib, good definition of loin, sufficient bend of stifle, straight hock, did not move well on the day.

 

Post Graduate Dog 3

1^st              Drummond’s – BALLINDONA BENROMACH, B/ BR lively character in the line, strong head, with dark eye and correct bite, good ear carriage, good ratio of angulation with sufficient chest and brisket, good spring of rib, correct in loin definition with a good balance of rear quarters with straight hock, moved ok

2^nd             Crossman & Sutcliffe’s – PENDLESTAFF FIRESTORM, Red/w, alert expression with dark eye, good ear carriage with correct bite, deep brisket and wide chest with good spring of rib, well-shaped loin, good bend of stifle with straight hocks, moved well with level top line

3^rd              Heron’s – MANARK FAST N FURIOUS

Limit Dog 2

1^st              Miller’s – DELDENAS BLACK SHADOW, B/Br – Well proportion head and shape, good expression, well placed ear, correct bite , balanced neck, chest and shoulder angulation, level topline, coat in good condition, moved and handled well (by Geoff Boote)

 2^nd             McKimm’s – FERGIESTAFFS OLYMPIC FLAME, Red/w, dark muzzle with dark eye, good ear carriage with correct bite, slightly narrow chest with sufficient spring of rib, good bend of stifle with straight hocks, moved well with level top line

Open Dog – No entries

Veteran Dog 2

1^st              Sutcliffe & Crossman’s – PENDLESTAFF THUNDERBOLT, W/Red 7 yrs – Excellent expression, correct bite, good head shape, Deep brisket, good spring of rib, strong thigh, good bend of stifle, straight hock, held top line on the move, this dog although a veteran could hold his own in any level of class.

2^nd             O’Donohue’s – MASTER CHANKAST, B/Br 10yrs but looked as though he still enjoyed the day, not quite as strong in build as 1, good head proportion, correct bite with neat ears, deep brisket with less spring of rib, good bend of stifle, with straight let down hocks, moved OK

Minor Puppy Bitch 3

1^st              Norton’s – EDGEWORETH FLASH FRANKIE at TIKKURILAN, B/br/w 7.5mth well-proportioned head with good balance of Terrier and Bull shape, good expression , correct bite, neat ears, strong boned, good balance ratio, level top line, moved well, developing nicely. BPB – BPIS

2^nd             McKimm’s – BIGGLESWICK FIFTY FIFTY, R/Wt, 6.5mth, not as strong as 1, dark eye, correct bite, good angulation of shoulder, neat feet, good spring of rib, light in loin and rear thigh developing well, level top line, moved OK

3^rd              Robinson Robinson-Cox & Cox’s – STUDSTAFF SUGAR & SPICE OF HAMASON

Puppy Bitch 2

1^st              Pickard’s – BULLBROTHERS PRODIGY, B/Br 10mth well-proportioned head, distinct stop, nice expression, Dark eye, strong boned with correct angulation, stood square, good spring of rib with nice shaped loin, thighs developing with straight let down hocks, moved well with level top line

 

2^st               Robinson Robinson-Cox & Cox’s – STUDSTAFF SUGAR & SPICE OF HAMASON, R/Wt correct bite with dark eye, ears a bit flighty at the moment, level top line, correct ratio height and length, slight bend of stifle with straight hock, moved ok, developing well.

 

Junior Bitch 4 (1)

1^st              Waltham’s – DRINGSHAW STORM BORN, Red , good head proportion, correct bite ,dark eye, good angulation , strong wide chest and brisket with good spring of rib, correct bend of stifle with straight let down hocks, good tail carriage, moved and handled well.

2^nd             Lindsay’s – ALDWYCH MOON RIVER  B/Br – Alert expression, good proportioned head with neat ear carriage, Short coupled, good angulation of shoulder with sufficient spring of rib, good definition of loin with well-balanced rear quarters, correct bend of stifle with straight hock, needs more drive in movement.

1^st              Hirst & Bibby’s – TARAIEL LORDE (JW)  B/Br/W Fits the bitch standard, feminine features, without exaggeration, correct height, good head proportion with expression, distinct stop, correct bite, large teeth, good angulation, good spring of rib, well tucked up, correct thigh development, with good bend of stifle, coat in excellent condition, held top line on the move with drive, best movement of the day, fit all round condition, BB , RBIS

1^st              Dixon’s – ASHSTOCK WANDERIN STAR, Red – Nice head shape, with correct proportion of muzzle to skull, correct bite with large teeth, strong chest leading to good angulation, strong spring of rib, tight in loin with good bend of stifle, moved well with level top line

1^st              Norton’s – ECLYPSTAFF C’EST LA VIE AVEC TIKKURILAN, B/Br with good proportioned head shape, correct bite with good expression, dark eye, correct angulation with wide chest and deep brisket, good bend of stifle with straight hock, well padded feet, held top line on the move. RBB

Veteran Bitch 5 (3)

1^st              Norton’s – STORMPIKE CLEOPATRA OF TIKKURILAN, B/Br 13Yrs Excellent condition for her age, with good head shape, correct bite and dark eye giving a good expression, although growing old gracefully she stood square and moved with level top line

2^nd             Mayren’s – KIRNIASTAFF PAGE LIL GIZMO, R/Wt 7 yrs, standard size with strong head shape, let down with untidy dentition, dark eye, good angulation with wide chest, strong boned, good spring of rib with strong thigh and straight hock, moved well
