NW Open Show October 2023

Judge – Julie Cartwright (Borgstaff)

15th October 2023 – Longridge Civic Hall, Preston

A fantastic entry of 73 dogs awaited our judge, who must be commended for attracting such numbers, reflected especially in the puppy classes with 28 actual dogs and a terrific Open bitch class – 8 entries including four Champions and another Champion in Veteran. The downside of this – there isn’t one.

One desirable consequence of a higher entry is a larger attendance as can be demonstrated by the following (dodgy) photos.

Judges Critique and photos of placings

(NW Club members in red)

I would like to thank the officers and committee members for their vote to give me the opportunity to judge this show. Thank you to my ring stewards Kay Aspin and Kerrie Couzens who did a fantastic job keeping everything flowing in the ring.

The quality of the dogs/bitches was excellent and it was an absolute honour to go over them all. Thank you to everyone who entered and for taking my decisions sportingly. Some of the younger exhibits were difficult to assess and could do with more ringcraft practice and socialisation, something a local handling class can help with.

I was thrilled with all my main winners. Mouths on the whole were good and no health issues on the day, therefore not mentioned in my critique.

Thank you to the Club for my lovely judges gifts and hospitality, food as always was fantastic!

Apologies for the sparsity of the show report – the Norton’s were absent from this event – medical issues that have blighted us for most of this year. As for photos, Claire took a considerable number of shots of people around the show (which was commendable) – all except one that were hazy in the extreme – it looked like the venue was fog bound. The one remaining one is of the Chairman, Roy Day and Claire presenting the venue manager with a token of our thanks – below.
