This show was a long time coming, a year in fact, but eventually Andy Mayren finally got his judgement day. Our regular venue pre-covid – the Mather Room at Leigh – continued to be unavailable to us – this uncertainty over the course of 2021 as to whether or not we could ever hold a show there (never mind the Training class) ultimately pushed us into looking at alternative venues and we came up with this one – the Civic Hall at Longridge. The above photo was taken before the show opened.
Longridge is a small town 10 minutes east of the M6 J32. The Civic Hall has parking at the front and side of the building – inside, the main hall is plenty big enough for our Open shows; there is a kitchen with very modern facilities that was available to us and by the side of the kitchen and more or less down one side of the hall there is a seated dining area. There is also a bar which we elected not to use on this occasion, (sorry Jim) maybe in the future.
The show was subject to Covid measures – we requested that all attendees take a Coronavirus test the day before the show (and not attend if this was positive) and we also asked people to wear face coverings as much as possible.
There was a new regime on the Gate, as well as Secretary Claire Crossman as Greeter in Chief we had two new Committee members dealing with the hordes of people arriving. They were Chrissy and John Howard (right) jumping in at the deep end, suitably attired, (covid safe) and quick to learn the ropes.
On with the show – Andy has accumulated a fair bit of experience in the breed both breeding and showing and now, judging. Andy attracted an entry of 63 dogs, so quite a few to get his teeth into, with some long distance travellers as far away as Suffolk and Scotland; even Stacey Cherry (from Belfast) and Nicola Windsor-Smith from Dublin had entered their current posse of dogs; no sign of them though, they must have forgot the show was on.
As is custom, our President Archie Bryden opened proceedings and introduced the judge to the assembled mix of exhibitors and spectators, growing more by the minute.
