This show was held on the 21st of January 2018 at our usual venue, the Mather Room, Mather Lane, Leigh.

Today’s judge, pictured left, was Teri Owen – she shares her affix – Tagstane – with husband Gary.

The entry was 40 dogs.

The show followed the pattern of recent shows, attracting more than a handful of spectators; some from way back having a day out like Barry Booker, pictured here on the right.

 Jim & Maureen Devine, having missed the last show made a welcome appearance although from the look on Jim’s face I’m not sure he appreciated being captured on camera.

 They are chatting to Julie Simpson, taking time out from serving a very tempting selection of comestibles with special mention of her jam  & cream scones. The North West has a terrific team in the kitchen with Dave Heyes in charge and Denise Ramsden once more lending a hand and Julie and Steve serving. 

Credit should also go to Eleanor Boote who makes the hot pot. Eleanor is the one on the mike, today resplendent in a Stafford scarf, right.

Just to remind people the Club has a stall selling a range of books, pens, club badges and car stickers and lots more, manned at this show by Secretary Claire Crossman (and occasionally by Paul Sutcliffe).

 Critique with Class winners and placings

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the North West SBT Club for inviting me to judge their limit show. I was greeted on the day by a friendly committee and the show had a lovely atmosphere.
I’d also like to thank my ring stewards for keeping things moving throughout the day. Lastly I’d like to thank all the exhibitors for entering their beautiful dogs and braving the snowy conditions on the day. I really appreciate all the efforts by everyone on the day. All my class winners had scissors bites therefore it’s not mentioned.

Minor Puppy Dog – 3 entered

1st, Best Puppy Dog, Best Puppy and Reserve Best in Show, Desmond’s – Elitebull Challenger, with Debbie Desmond, below

B/b who is stunning! You can’t help but watch this dog, he draws you in with his alert expression. His muzzle is square, clean and tight lipped, he has a distinct stop, his ears sit perfectly rose, his eyes are round and dark. He has a straight front, tight well padded feet, good bone, good spring of rib for age, short coupled, level topline, strong enough backend for his age. His coat was in perfect condition and he moved with ease keeping his topline level. He was handled very well and was my RBIS & BPIS

2nd Boote’s – Belnite Balor at Gelstaff, with Geoff Boote, below

Brindle 6mth old, he has a strong head and neat ears, staright front, good bone, dark nails, good spring of rib for age. He has a level topline, good angulation, sadly he was a little unsettled today but I’m sure he will become more confident with time. A nice puppy.

1st Major’s – Maxsta Floyd Lord Of The Went, handled by Kim Cape

B/b, 10mth old. A very nice looking puppy, lovely head and expression, nice dark eyes with well set rose ears, good bone, level topline, well padded feet, good angulation. Moved well.

Junior Dog 4, 1 absent

1st Stanway’s – Waystaff Strike Force, with Liz Stanway

Red standard sized dog, clean and well shaped head, dark eyes, straight front, good spring of rib, level topline, strong backend which helped him move with plenty of drive

2nd Boulton & Hayton’s – Dusklight Against All Odds, handled by Pete Naylor

White strong dog, he is well built and oozes strength, his pigmentation is dark and his front is straight, I would’ve liked his feet to be tighter which I feel would’ve complimented his front. He has well sprung ribs and is short coupled. He was handful for his handler but he managed to settle him and this dog moves with plenty of character.

3rd Axe’s – Harley’s Choice, handled by Harley Axe

Novice Dog 2

1st Gibson’s – Zulash Black Hurricane, handled by the breeder Simon Holloway

B/b this is a very neat standard dog, clean head with a nice expression, good angulation, correct tail carriage, he was a handful for his handler but with a bit of training I’m sure he would show himself with nothing but confidence.

2nd Hardley’s – Joemikeste Amor Dei

White & red, this strong boy stood like a statue and performed very well for his owner. His head is clean and his pigmentation was dark. I felt he performed much better in the PG class.

Limit Dog 3, 2 absent

1st Stanway’s – Little Earthquakes Powerstrike at Waystaff

Brindle, nice topsized dog, good expression, strong head and muzzle however I would’ve preferred to be cleaner. Straight front, good bone, good spring of rib, short coupled, level topline and good angulation.

1st Mayren’s – Bellarouge Adonis at Fergiestaffs, handled by Andy Mayren

Red & White, this dog is a strong topsized, well built Stafford. There is no weakness at all in this dog which is the way I believe it should be. His muzzle is deep through with a broad skull with pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stop and short foreface. He has dark eyes and dark pigmentation. His front is straight with no looseness at the elbows, good bone with tight, well padded feet. He has short powerful neck, level topline and powerful backend. His coat was immaculate! Handled well and moved with drive. BIS

2nd Drummond’s – Ballindona Benromach, handled by Pete Naylor, below

I have judged this dog before, he is always turned out in the best of conditions and as hard as nails. He is a strong dog, strong head, short coupled, he moved well and his condition is a credit to his owner

Veteran Dog 2, 1 absent

1st Patrick & Matthews’ – Absolute Star, handled by Janet Matthews

B/b 10yr old who is still high spirited and still got lots of spark about him. He has a strong head, nice expression, neat ears and dark expressive eyes. His front is straight, good bone and neat feet, level topline, still possesses a strong backend. Overall a fine old boy with plenty of life and character about him

Red & White, she is a very alert, pretty little girl with a lovely expression. Good angulation, good spring of rib for age, good tail carriage, she moved and handled well.

B/b nice standard bitch 10mth old. She has a strong, feminine head with a clean muzzle, a pleasant expression and neat ears. Her front is straight and she has nice tight feet which are well padded. She has a level topline, good spring of rib and short coupled. Moved & handled well. Best Puppy Bitch

Novice Bitch 1

1st Tighe’s – Tegumen Little Miss Sparkle, handled by Steven Tighe

B/b lower end of the standard with a strong yet feminine head. She has beautiful tight, well padded feet with short dark nails. Strong front with no weakness, short coupled, level topline which she held on the moved. Strong backend and was in good condition. Moved well.

Post Graduate Bitch 7, 2 absent

1st, Best Bitch and Best Opposite Sex in Show, Mudd’s – Chiswelstaff Jean Genie, handled by Chris Mudd

B/b strong athletic bitch. Strong head yet feminine, dark eyes and neat ears helped give her a very attractive expression. Good angulation, level topline and correct tail carriage. She moved well and stood beautifully. She didn’t put a foot wrong. Best Bitch

2nd Blows – Valglo Deja Vu, handled by Pete Naylor

B/b strong standard bitch with a strong head, good expression however I would’ve liked her muzzle a little cleaner just to finish the expression off. She has a level topline, correct tail carriage, straight front but sadly she didn’t settle on the move however I liked her other qualities enough to place her 2nd.

B/b standard sized bitch with strength throughout. It’s safe to say this bitch won on head for me broad skull with depth, distinct stop, strong cheek muscles and dark round eyes. Beautiful expression with neat ears but staying feminine. Straight front, tight feet, good bone, short coupled, strong backend, moved and handled well. Res Best Bitch

2nd Butler’s – Joemikeste Play The Game, handled by Dave Butler, below

B/b very feminine head shape with big round dark eyes which give her a very alert expression which is hard to see past. Straight front, tight well padded feet, good angulation, correct tail carriage. She’s full of life this one and she was a handful for her handler today. However it’s clear to see she is a quality bitch.

3rd Stanway’s – Stormfire Crack The Code at Waystaff

Both bitches have very similar qualities and it did come down to splitting hairs between them.

1st Matthews’ – Janjoma Boniwee Gurl, handled by Janet Matthews

B/b clean feminine head, pleasant expression, neat ears, straight front, good bone, good feet, good spring of rib, good angulation, level topline, moved and handled well. I preferred her spring of rib and fitness over 2 

2nd Norton’s – Tikkurilan Lucky Strike, handled by Elaine Norton, below

All the same qualities as 1. There really wasn’t much between these two bitches for me.

Veteran Bitch 2, 1 absent

1st & Best Veteran in Show, Norton’s – Pendlestaff Brindle Babe at Tikkurilan, handled by Elaine Norton

Fizz by name and Fizz by nature! Topsized, strong 7yr old bitch with plenty still to like about her. She has a cracking head shape with a punishingly alert expression. She is super fit, straight front, well padded feet and has good angulation, level topline which once she settled she held on the move. This is a cracker of an old girl with many more years to give her owners. Best Veteran in Show
