This show was originally scheduled for April 2020, then re-scheduled for November 2020 and finally arranged for the actual date that it was held, Oct 9th 2021. For anybody reading this in the future, the reason for these changing dates was the Corona Virus pandemic.
The venue was once again Thompson House Equestrian Centre, but whereas the July Champ show was held very successfully on the Event field, this time around we were in the Equestrian Indoor Arena (the field was deemed unsuitable, by the venue, in early October). The advantage for the Indoor Arena was the proximity of facilities – toilets and cafe – the latter was quite a hit with a tasty range of food – in fact they very busy all day and actually run out of virtually everything.
The one major disadvantage was the surface – a typical one for horses but not for dogs and not humans either. There was some debate about having two rings but in the end it was decided to go with one large one
At least this time around we were able to have a raffle; in fact things were pretty much back to normal.
In order that the judges could see the whole dog including their feet we used a 3″ high stand for the dogs to stand on – the possibility that some dogs would react adversely to this imposition was soon dispelled as it soon became clear that they all took it in their stride
The judges on the day were the Club President Archie Bryden (Dogs) and Bernard Cockayne (Bitches) – the latter was a last minute replacement for Kirsty Summerfield – and the referee was Elaine Norton. The total entry was 161, pretty much average for the breed club shows so far this year.
Main Awards
Dog CC and Best In Show, on the referee’s decision, was Brockmar I Am Titanium at Finnstaff owned by Stacey Cherry and family, from Belfast. We are used to seeing Stacey around the shows this year and this visit certainly paid off. The dog was bred by NW members Martin and Michelle Murphy, who also exhibited the litter brother at this show (3rd in Post Grad).
The Bitch CC, Reserve BIS was owner and breeders Willie and Christine McClelland’s Rochlawie Bonnie Lass – a third CC for this bitch – a litter sibling to the dog Ch Rochlawie Behold The Hour (also owned by the McClellands). Well done to these two keen exhibitors and congratulations – they were also showing two bitches at the show, out of Bonnie Lass.
The Dog RCC was awarded to the Open Dog class winner Gazstaff’s Man In Black for Antoniostaff, owned by Antony Antonio and bred by Gareth & Carmen Thomas.
The Bitch RCC was awarded to Angela Johnson’s Ch Ellchansha Once Upon Time
The Best Puppy was Kerry Fulford’s home bred Dog, Regalbull Enzo, another referee job.
Finally, the Best Veteran was awarded to the Dog, Ginstean Black Bomber, owner/breeder Stella Whitley.

Overall a nice entry of reasonable quality. Movement was generally quite good. Coat condition was pretty good all round but a few dogs spoiled their chances by carrying too much weight
Minor Puppy Dog (2,0)
1 McGarry and Edwards’ Rowenda Warleggen Prince. Standard sized 7 months black brindle, good bite ample strength of muzzle, ears a bit heavy, well boned, moved OK
2 Evans’ Thebilecious Power in Me, 8 months – taller type than winner, bite OK, ears fly a bit, moved OK. (Handled by Jessica Farrimond)
Puppy Dog (10,1)
1 Stevens and Pycroft’s – Regalbull Enzo. 10m old, black brindle, lovely shaped head with correct bite, dark eye, neat ears, good stop, strong muzzle, soundly constructed all round, and moved well. Has a lot of maturing to do and time will tell. BPD and BPIS on referee’s decision
2 Hands and Wyatt’s – Skyestaff Winter Soldier. Another promising 9m brindle youngster, nice strong head but not quite as clean as winner, well boned, moved OK and time will tell with maturity.
3 Hammond’s – Hammystaff Red Revenge. Beautifully pigmented 10m red, dark mask, good bite, tidy feet, moved OK.
Junior Dog (10,2)
1 Smith’s – Tillcarr Forged In Fire. Very strong headed brindle, dark eye, good bite, broad deep skull, well boned, ample rib, straight front, tidy feet, moved OK. Just hope he does not mature any more.
2 Cobb’s – Tillcarr Fire Collective. Another nice headed black brindle, dark round eye, good bite, well ribbed, moved OK.
3 Sutcliffe and Crossman’s – Pendlestaff Spitfire. Standard sized brindle with much to like, dark eye, correct mouth, moved OK.
Yearling Dog (5,0)
1 Cooper’s – Fairlenium’s Bat Out of Hell. Standard sized brindle and white, nice head and expression, dark round eye, correct bite, straight broad front, ample rib moved well.
2 Burrows and Ayrton’s Rossobull Iggle Piggle. Another nice headed brindle but not as clean lipped as winner, well ribbed, good bone, moved OK.
3 Peacock’s – Trawden Rocket Man. Red and white, well enough made all round but a shade long cast.
Novice Dog (11,2)
1 Fairleniums Bat Out of Hell
2 Owen’s – Sikaistaff Warrior Spirit. Similar type as winner, well pigmented brindle, decent head, did not move as well as winner.
3 Baker’s – Foyleoak Diamond Geezer. Well enough made brindle, good bone, correct bite, moved OK but just preferred head and expression of winners.
Post Graduate Dog (12,1)
1 Price’s – Pridestaff Red Gunner. Nicely pigmented red, decent head and expression, good bite dark eye, well boned, broad chest, well ribbed, good bone, tidy feet, good rear end moved well
2. Power’s – Harkline Arthur Shelby. Nice headed brindle, dark eye, good bite, ample bone, moved OK but carrying a bit excess weight.
3 Murphy’s – Brockmar Crack On. Strong headed brindle, ample bone and substance, did not move as well as winners and a bit frisky.
Limit Dog (14,2)
1 Cherry’s – Brockmar I Am Titanium at Finnstaff. Lovely well balanced brindle with white flash on chest, excellent head and expression, defined stop, neat ears, dark round eye, good bite, strong muzzle and underjaw, short strong neck, broad straight front, neat feet, well ribbed and good quarters, short coupled, moved well. Being very critical I would like to see him lose the little excess weight carried on the loin, but a top dog nevertheless. DCC and BIS on referee’s decision.
2 Preston’s – Tillcarr Fire Starter JW. Another nice headed brindle with correct bite and nice expression, has many of the virtues of winner. Got well deserved look for RCC but did not move as well behind as Open Dog winner.
3 Johnson’s – Ellchansha Hotshot. Another good specimen with many virtues, I preferred the extra spring of rib of 1&2.
Open Dog (16,5)
1 Antonio’s – Gazstaff’s Man In Black for Antoniostaff JW. Very strong headed black brindle, neat ears, good bite, strong muzzle and underjaw, very pronounced stop, nice straight front, tidy feet, well ribbed, good rear end, carried a little excess on the waist, moved very well which helped him get RCC.
2 Hemstock, Hemstock and Sanjesh’s – Blazen Staff’s Over The Top Jolihem (Imp Deu). Attractive well balanced red with white chest, nicely shaped head, neat ears, correct bite, nice straight front, well boned, good spring of rib, moved OK.
3 Briant and Nicholson’s – Ballindona Roger the Dodger JW. Nicely pigmented tiger brindle, pleasing head and expression, ample bone, well made all round, moved well.
Veteran Dog (7,0) A lovely class of doggy ‘old codgers’, every one of them a credit to the breed.
1 Whitley’s – Ginstean Black Bomber. 8 year old black brindle still in excellent condition belying his years, nice head, correct bite, good front, ample rib, moved well, BVIS.
2 Ryan’s – Ch Rubericla Black Starscream. Another golden oldie now 9yo enjoying his day out, still has a lovely head but clearly enjoying the treats with middle aged spread showing but let’s face it he deserves it. His quality is still there to be seen.
3 Rowe and South’s – Illori Akinlana JW ShCM. Just a youngster aged only seven, put down in fit condition and a credit to his owner, decent head, good bite sound bodily, moved well.
DOG CC – the winner of Limit Dog – Brockmar I Am Titanium at Finnstaff
DOG RCC – the winner of Open Gazstaff’s Man In Black for Antoniostaff
Bitches – Bernard Cockayne
